Harrisonburg Parole and Probation
Parole and probation can both place a person under rules in the community, yet they begin in different ways. Parole is conditional release from a prison term for a person who falls within a parole-eligible Virginia cohort or a special statutory category. Probation is imposed by a court, often with a suspended sentence, and it can exist without any state-prison stay. In Harrisonburg, VADOC Community Corrections administers day-to-day supervision for both. The Virginia Parole Board decides parole questions; it does not serve as Harrisonburg's local probation office.
Virginia largely ended discretionary parole for felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995. Code § 53.1-165.1 sets that broad limit, subject to current statutory exceptions. Many modern releases are therefore sentence discharge followed by court-ordered probation, not a Parole Board grant. An offense date, sentence, and supervision entry must be read together before assigning either label.

Verify Harrisonburg Post-Release Supervision
The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator is the main public starting point. It covers people in VADOC custody or supervision, including probationers and parolees assigned to district offices. It can also cover some state-responsible people held in local or regional jails. The locator is updated daily, but VADOC warns that information may be inaccurate or out of date. A no-result does not establish that supervision ended.
Identity comes first. The locator accepts the first three letters of the first name plus the full last name, or a seven-digit DOC ID. Advanced filters include location, age range, race, and gender after the disclaimer is accepted. A DOC ID is stronger than a common name. Record the status and district exactly as displayed, then corroborate them with the office or court tied to the case.
- Search the VADOC locator by DOC ID when known. Otherwise use the required name format and narrow the results with available identity fields.
- Open the matching record. Note whether it describes custody, parole, probation, or another community status and whether District 39 is listed.
- For probation, select the Harrisonburg/Rockingham court in the applicable General District Court system or the individual circuit court. Review the sentencing and later revocation entries.
- For parole, search the Board's monthly decision reports by full name and DOC number. Treat a grant as a decision, not proof of physical release.
- Call District 39 for appropriate routing when the public status is unclear. Ask what record can confirm the current supervising district or termination date.
Fully discharged people may no longer appear like active supervisees. Harrisonburg District 39 Supervision
Harrisonburg-area community supervision is assigned through VADOC's District 39 office, which serves Harrisonburg city as well as Page and Rockingham counties. This is a Community Corrections office. It is distinct from the Virginia Parole Board in Richmond. District staff supervise cases and route appropriate questions about an active supervisee; Board members decide parole for the narrower group that is legally eligible.

The live VADOC office directory listed that Kaylor Park Drive address at the research date. An older agency PDF lists West Water Street, so it should not be used for current routing. The office may require identity details before it can discuss a record and may withhold sensitive case information. A public request should focus on the supervising district, current public status, or the proper channel for a formal record.
Pretrial supervision is different. Rockingham-Harrisonburg Court Services works with people released on bail before judgment, while District 39 handles state community-corrections cases. A pretrial report schedule or GPS term is not parole or post-sentence probation. Check the court order when the timing or type is uncertain.
Harrisonburg Parole Decision Records
The Parole Board's monthly decision reports provide the practical public results archive. Depending on the report, entries may show a grant, non-grant, violation action, decision date, jurisdiction, reasons, conditions, offenses, or estimated time served. Search each monthly PDF by both full name and DOC number. A Harrisonburg matter may be indexed by the city or the 26th Circuit rather than by an invented county agency name.
The Board's public-meetings calendar is not a person-by-person future interview schedule. Since July 2024, the Board has described public meetings for final deliberation and votes on parole grants. Its process includes an interview, comprehensive review, decision, and then planning and notification. A grant can still be followed by release planning, detainer review, or final processing.

That division matters in Harrisonburg: the Board record may document a parole ruling, while VADOC and District 39 document custody or supervision status.
Note: Monthly publication can lag a new decision, and a decision date should never be substituted for the date physical custody ended.
Harrisonburg Supervision Warrants
An absconder is a person formally alleged to have stopped reporting or otherwise evaded supervision. The word is not a label for anyone whose address changed or whose locator record is hard to find. VADOC's Most Wanted page is curated. It is not a full list of every absconder, so absence from that page does not prove compliance.
Use the relevant court docket for a capias, show-cause matter, or revocation case, and contact District 39 for proper routing. VADOC procedure indicates that officer arrest warrants, capiases, and Parole Board warrants are filed with law enforcement. An open warrant does not by itself show that the person is confined now. Do not attempt to apprehend anyone. VADOC accepts tips through the number shown on its official page or through local law enforcement.
Virginia Code § 53.1-161 addresses parolee arrest authority. Court entries and agency records should supply the status, not rumor, an old address, or a failed name search. If the alleged violation concerns probation, the sentencing court's revocation record is often the clearest public timeline.
Harrisonburg Release Reentry Support
The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board provides jail-based transition work. Its community liaison can meet with people nearing release, help plan continuity of care, and connect them with community services. Medication management is part of the published local jail-service role. This resource supports transition planning, but it is not a public locator and does not confirm parole, probation, or a release date.
Gemeinschaft Home, just outside Harrisonburg, describes residential and nonresidential programs for adults recently released or diverted from incarceration. Its services include case management, referrals, and coordination with VADOC reentry staff, probation or parole, and Court Services. The published contact is (540) 434-1690 and P.O. Gemeinschaft's Day Reporting Center is also not an open search system. Referrals generally come from VADOC reentry counselors, probation officers, or Rockingham-Harrisonburg Court Services. A person's use of a program should not be inferred from a custody result. Contact the program or supervising office only through an appropriate, lawful route.
Harrisonburg State Release Documents
VADOC's state facility release process describes documents that help distinguish release from supervision. A person leaving a VADOC facility may receive a notification-of-release letter and sign an Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole as applicable. Staff witness and date those papers. Those documents are stronger evidence than a guess based on roster absence.
The same state guidance says personal property and account funds are returned. It may also provide bus transport, discharge clothing, limited medication, and medical-record arrangements. These are VADOC facility procedures. They are not promises about Middle River Regional Jail or Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail, which have their own policies.
When records conflict, compare the signed release paper, current VADOC status, and the court or Board record. Conditions can include reporting, approved residence, travel limits, and other case-specific terms. Public sources do not disclose every condition. District 39 is the proper local agency for supervision routing, not the regional jail after a community release.
Note: A transfer from a Harrisonburg-area jail into VADOC is continued custody, even if the local jail reports that its own custody ended.
Harrisonburg Supervision Discharge Records
Supervision ends through a formal legal or agency event, not through silence in a public search. The date may come from a court order, a VADOC discharge record, expiration of the controlling term, or another lawful termination. A person can complete physical incarceration yet remain subject to supervision. The reverse is also possible when a later warrant or new custody event begins.
Ask narrowly when the public locator no longer answers the question. Useful fields include DOC number, supervision type, supervising district, start date, termination date, and the authority for termination. Avoid requesting confidential treatment, victim, security, or detailed case-plan material. VADOC may invoke statutory exemptions for parts of a file while releasing nonexempt status information.
For probation, obtain the final order from the correct Harrisonburg/Rockingham court when the precise term matters. For parole, pair the monthly Board decision with VADOC's actual release and later discharge records. These sources answer different parts of the same timeline and prevent a parole decision from being mistaken for the end of all state authority.
